Mr. Hogan
Mr. Matthew Hogan is currently entering his fourth year of teaching and his first year at Rogers Middle School and Berry Miller Junior High. At RMS, Mr. Hogan teaches the beginning trumpet, French horn, and trombone classes and at BMJH, he directs the Symphonic Band and assists with the Honors, Concert 1, and Concert 2 Bands. Before coming to Pearland ISD, Mr. Hogan worked as an assistant band director for three years at Arnold Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
Hailing from Houston but raised in Corpus Christi, Mr. Hogan's musical journey began at Gregory-Portland High School, where he served as drum major of the G-P Wildcat Marching Band and earned accolades as a two-time 5A Texas All-Area horn player. Returning to his hometown for college, he completed his bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of Houston, graduating summa cum laude in May 2021. During his time at the Moores School of Music, Mr. Hogan studied French horn under Gavin Reed, was a member of the UH Wind Ensemble, served as an assistant conductor for the Cougar Brass Basketball Band, and held the role of drum major for three years in the "Spirit of Houston" Cougar Marching Band.
Additionally, Mr. Hogan is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and an alumni of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
Mr. Hogan currently resides in southwest Houston with his fiancée, Julia, and their feline companions, Spruce and Juniper. When not in the band hall, he finds joy in crossword puzzles, coffee, running half marathons, and passionately supporting all things University of Houston sports.
