Mr. Hogan

Matthew Hogan is entering his fifth year of teaching and his second year with Rogers Middle School and Berry Miller Junior High. At RMS, he teaches beginning trumpet, French horn, and trombone classes. At BMJH, he directs the Symphonic Band and assists with the Honors, Concert 1, and Concert 2 Bands. Prior to joining Pearland ISD, Mr. Hogan served for three years as an assistant band director at Arnold Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.

Originally from Houston and raised in Corpus Christi, Mr. Hogan’s musical journey began at Gregory-Portland High School, where he served as drum major of the G-P Wildcat Marching Band and earned distinction as a two-time 5A Texas All-Area horn player. He later returned to Houston to pursue his bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of Houston, graduating summa cum laude in May 2021. While at the Moores School of Music, he studied French horn under Gavin Reed, performed with the UH Wind Ensemble, served as assistant conductor for the Cougar Brass Basketball Band, and held the position of drum major for three years with the “Spirit of Houston” Cougar Marching Band.

Mr. Hogan is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association, and he is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

He currently resides in southwest Houston with his wife, Julia, and their three pets—Spruce, Juniper, and Oakley. Outside the band hall, he enjoys crossword puzzles, coffee, and cheering on University of Houston athletics.
