Mr. Bennett

Chris Bennett is a dedicated music educator entering his 20th year of teaching, continuing a tradition of excellence at Rogers Middle School and Berry Miller Junior High School. Under his leadership, the Berry Miller Honors Band has earned its 16th consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Award, performed at the 2024 Music for All National Concert Band Festival, and was recognized as a National Winner in the Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence Competition in both the Class AA and New Music categories.

Before his tenure at Rogers and Berry Miller, Mr. Bennett served as Director of Bands at Bayside Intermediate School (Clear Creek ISD) and as Assistant Band Director at League City Intermediate School (Clear Creek ISD) and Baines Middle School (Fort Bend ISD).

His ensembles have consistently earned UIL Sweepstakes Awards, Best in Class honors, and TMEA CC/CCC Honor Band Finalist placements, including 4th (2019), 5th (2023), 7th (2013), 9th (2017), 10th (2025), and 14th (2011) in Texas.

In 2022, the Berry Miller Band received the prestigious John Philip Sousa Sudler Cup for sustained excellence in middle school music education.

A native of Pearland, TX, Mr. Bennett was a proud member of the Pearland High School Band, the 2001 TMEA All-State Symphonic Band, and the 2001 National John Philip Sousa Honor Band. He went on to study at the University of Houston, performing with the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and the Grammy-nominated Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble, which appeared at the TMEA and CBDNA conventions. His mentors include Ryan Agard, John Benzer, David Bertman, Tom Bennett, Aaron Brown, Greg Dick, Doug Eger, Eddie Green, Randall Griffin, Wade McDonald, Chester Rowell, and Susan Scarborough. He graduated summa cum laude in 2005.

Mr. Bennett is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas State Teachers Association, and Phi Beta Mu (Alpha Chapter) International School Bandmasters Fraternity.

He resides in Friendswood, TX, with his wife, Pri, and their six rescue animals.
